Culturally Responsive Therapy for BIPOC Clients

We have a deep passion for serving Black, African American, and other communities of color. Many of our clients carry invisible emotional labor shaped by family expectations, cultural pressures, workplace dynamics, and the ongoing impact of racial stress. These experiences are real, layered, and deserving of thoughtful, compassionate care.

We recognize that your identity influences how you move through the world. Your culture matters. Your lived experiences matter. Therapy should be a space where these parts of you are acknowledged and respected, not minimized or overlooked.

We welcome clients from all backgrounds, we intentionally cultivate an environment where clients feel seen, understood, and affirmed. You should not have to explain, justify, or defend your experiences in order to receive meaningful support.

Our Approach

Our therapists integrate a range of evidence-based, empowerment-focused approaches to support your growth and healing. These include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), person-centered therapy, solution-focused therapy, Motivational Interviewing, trauma-informed care, EMDR, Brainspotting, somatic-focused interventions, mind-body connection practices, and strengths-based approaches. Each modality is thoughtfully selected and tailored to meet your unique needs and goals.

We believe lasting change happens when insight is paired with action. Using approaches like CBT and Motivational Interviewing, we help you identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns, strengthen internal motivation, and make meaningful, practical shifts in behavior. Through somatic work and mind-body practices, we also support you in understanding how stress and trauma are held in the body, while building skills to regulate your nervous system more effectively.

Virtual Individual Therapy in North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, and New Hampshire

All sessions are conducted online through a secure, HIPAA compliant platform. Virtual therapy allows you to access care from a private and comfortable space that works for you.

In the early sessions, we explore your goals, background, stressors, and what feels most pressing. From there, we develop a clear direction for treatment.

You can expect support in learning how to:

Not comfortable with face to face conversations? Having a bad day and just don't want your face to be seen? That's okay!  We can chat on the phone about what's on your mind and take the stress out of being “presentable”

Chat sessions are also available ! It’s very similar to texting but through a HIPAA-compliant system! Clients who choose this option like that they can take more time to think about what they want to say before they respond.

In our individual therapy sessions, I will ask you questions to help you explore yourself and gain a new sense of self-awareness. Together, we will define your wants & needs, sift through your findings and customize a toolbox of healthy coping resources to use outside of sessions. This will enhance your independence from therapy, boost self-love, and bring you closer to the life you want to design for yourself!

Couples

Is communication, empathy and understanding an issue in your relationship? Do you struggle to resolve issues, handle conflict, and find yourself resenting your partner? Do you feel like there is an unhealthy balance of compromise or are you the only one sacrificing? Are you looking to improve your sex life, intimacy, consistency, or just strengthen your bond? Let's chat!

Couples sessions involve getting to know the wants, needs, expectations, and feelings of both parties involved. We will dive into any past or present issues that lead to miscommunications and invalidated feelings in the relationship. If both parties are open to couples therapy, you can unlock a new level of communication and intimacy in your relationship!

Family

Are you having issues communicating your feelings to family members? Have you ever felt guarded due to past experiences of being shut down, dismissed or even disrespected? Is the parent-child relationship rocky? Are you struggling as a parent to build a relationship with your child? Would you like to break generational curses, repair family relationships,  or set boundaries in your family unit?

Family sessions involve the family coming together with different perspectives, but a common goal to strengthen their relationships. In family therapy, we will work on validating each member's experiences and identify the patterns that aren’t working. Allow me to offer your family clarity, healing and constructive changes!

Financial issues getting in the way of mental health counseling? Access to therapy for all clients is important to me. If you are facing a financial burden or if doing therapy means sacrificing your basic needs (bills,children, food) you have options!

Please visit the Open Path Collective. We offer a limited number of discounted sessions to Open Path members that are committed to weekly therapy sessions that do not have insurance and/or can’t afford private pay.

We also offer a limited number of sliding scale slots to clients that want to work with me, don’t have insurance, and are committed to weekly therapy sessions at a discounted rate. Please inquire by mentioning it in your contact form!

Asé Counseling & Empowerment Services currently accepts the following insurance:

  • Private pay allows me to see clients without certain obligations that may interfere with a clients therapeutic experience (diagnosis, limited # of sessions, proving a need for therapy).

  • Upon requests, I am able to provide you with a superbill that you may turn into your insurance company for possible reimbursement, which is not guaranteed. Please contact your insurance regarding out of network reimbursement.

  • You are responsible for paying the full session fee at the time of our appointment. For those who would like support with getting out of network reimbursement, I recommend working with Reimbursify. Once the superbill is provided, you will submit it and your insurance information to Reimbursify and they will negotiate with your insurance company for reimbursement.
